ODOT STUDYING OPTIONS FOR FIXING I-70 EAST
FREEWAY
(public meeting schedule below)
The Ohio Department of Transportation will hold three public
meetings to share design concepts for rebuilding portions of
Interstate 70 between Livingston Avenue and State Route 256 on
the east side of Columbus.
A recent analysis concluded the stretch of freeway is the
third most congested, high-crash freeway location in central
Ohio. The interchanges were built in the ‘60s and serve up to
60 percent more traffic than they were designed to handle.
Today, the highway carries up to 130,000 vehicles per day and
experiences more than 1,000 accidents per year.
Working with the community, ODOT plans to develop short and
long-term fixes that can reduce excessive weaving and merging
between the interchanges, which often leads to congestion and
accidents.
Final recommendations for the freeway will be made later this
year.
WHO:
ODOT representatives will be on hand to explain the design
concepts and answer questions. Public comments can be provided
in person, by phone or through the web site at www.I-70.org.
